Early Goddesses | “Magdalene” | 1990–1992
In my search for a universal feminine image, I wanted to include aspects of landscape, myth, and our (mis)treatment of the world. In this period I experimented with subtractive drawing (a texture gained by erasing a drawing). Many of the earliest drawings were simply titled “Magdalene (# of the series).” The “number” in the title remained for the first 25 or so.
